Pursuing Organizational Excellence
Some school systems in out-of-the-way places have been pursuing lofty goals of organizational excellence, and they鈥檝e not allowed the uncertain and unpredictable conditions of the past 12 months to derail their work. In fact, some of the tools for continuous improvement they鈥檝e been practicing have come in especially handy.
First-person accounts of these districts鈥� distinctive efforts are chronicled to an extent in this month鈥檚 issue. You鈥檒l read accounts about the school districts in Estacada, Ore., Tea, S.D., Lac du Flambeau, Wis., and Menomonee Falls, Wis. 鈥� notably how they鈥檝e tried to ensure effective teaching and learning continued during the year-plus of the coronavirus pandemic. The lead article, 鈥�Learning From Our Wicked Challenges,鈥� is written by Patricia Greco, a former superintendent who now works for Studer Education.
Our April issue also includes the fifth in our Thought Leadership Series, a conversation between former superintendent Mary Herrmann and Gary Hamel, co-author of a new book with an applicable theme for all school district leaders, Humanocracy.
